Porcelain veneers have become a highly requested cosmetic dental treatment for patients seeking to address concerns ranging from discolored teeth to large gaps between the teeth (diastema).
Lawson dentist Dr. Kanning offers this high quality dental veneer as both a cosmetic and restorative option for damaged, misshapen and discolored teeth. Porcelain veneers are the “gold standard” of dental veneers and are considered a permanent restoration. They are highly durable, ultra thin shells of porcelain that are custom matched to a patient’s natural teeth for lasting and aesthetically pleasing results. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and will be part of a beautiful smile for years to come with proper dental care and oral hygiene.
The Porcelain Veneer Process
Your procedure begins with a comprehensive dental exam and consultation with Dr. Kanning to determine that porcelain veneers are the best solution for you and discuss expected results.
The porcelain veneer procedure usually takes 2 or 3 visits to the dentist. Dr. Kanning will prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing a small amount of the natural tooth structure. This creates room for the veneers to fit comfortably and stabely in your mouth.
Dr. Kanning will send an impression of your teeth along with treatment specifications to a highly talented ceramist, who will hand-fabricate each tooth veneer in a dental laboratory. It generally takes about 3 weeks for Dr. Kanning to receive your final restorations.
At your final appointment, Dr. Kanning will try the veneers on your teeth, adjust them if necessary for a secure and comfortable fit and then cement them to the teeth for a permanent restoration. He will provide any specific long term care instructions for maintaining your new smile.
