Meet Richmond, MO Dentist Dr. Steven Fawks

Dr. Steven W. Fawks is a life-long Missouri resident having grown up in Chariton County, and graduating from Salisbury High School in 1970. He enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard with the 1175th Military Police Unit in Moberly, Missouri in 1971.

He attended college at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) and worked toward a degree in biology. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and president of the Pre-Dental Club his senior year. He graduated with honors in 1975. After graduation, he married Dolores A. Mason, who was also a Salisbury resident. They had dated in college where Dolores had studied to be a registered nurse and received her BS in Nursing in 1975 as well. In August of 1975, they moved to Independence, Missouri where they spent the next 4 years while Dr. Fawks attended UMKC Dental School. He also transferred to the 135th Field Hospital National Guard unit in Kansas City. Dolores began her nursing career as an RN for the City of Independence Home Health Department.

Dr. Fawks graduated from UMKC with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1979 and had already made plans to set up his private practice in Richmond, Missouri. In July of 1979, the couple moved to Richmond and Dr. Fawks opened his office in the Richmond Professional Plaza in September of that year. Dolores continued to commute to Independence until she became the school nurse for the Richmond R-XVI School
District in 1980. Dr. Fawks and his wife have three children; Stephanie R. Milburn of Richmond, Angela M. Fawks of Everett, Washington, and Ryan P. Fawks of Kansas City. They also have four grandchildren.

Dr. Fawks has several interests outside of Dentistry, which include; fishing, hunting, primitive as well as modern firearms, camping, and golf. He also loved basketball but had to retire from full-court play at 55 years of age. Professionally, Dr. Fawks has been a long-time member of the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Lafayette Dental Study Club. He was an early pioneer in the use of bonded, posterior, tooth-colored composite resin restorations in the 1980ʼs. Over his 40 year career in dentistry, other developments have also been incorporated in the office to include Laser and Air Abrasion decay removal, NTI Bite Guards, and anti-snoring/sleep appliances.

In 1989, he built the current office and has stayed in this location on Spartan Drive for the last 30 years.
