There are many types of dentures available today. The type that is best for you will depend on your dental requirements, comfort, and budget. COMPLETE DENTURES

Also called full dentures, this set of false teeth can be used to replace both the top and bottom sets of teeth. They are utilized when a person loses all of the teeth on an arch. The false teeth are fused to a base that is made of acrylic or metal. They will remain in place by suctioning to the gums with a layer of saliva. Denture adhesive can also be used when necessary. These are removable and should be taken out at night for cleaning and to give your gums time to rest.

PARTIAL DENTURES

This type of restoration is utilized when some, but not all, teeth are missing from the top or bottom row of teeth. A partial consists of a pink-colored base and the fake teeth are fused to it. The base is attached to a metal framework with clasps that will snap onto the remaining healthy teeth. These are removable and will need to be taken out for cleaning.

DENTURE IMPLANTS

Denture implants are typically used to replace a full set of missing bottom and/or top teeth. The denture is held in place by attaching to a number of dental implants that have been surgically placed in the jaw bone. While two implants are sufficient, the more implants you have, the more stable the denture will be.

The optimal number of implants is between four and eight. The denture can be screwed to the implants for a more permanent fit and only a dentist will be able to remove it. Another type of denture implant involves the denture “snapping” onto the implants. It can be removed for cleaning.
