CLEAR ALIGNERS AT KANNING DENTAL

A straighter smile is a healthier smile, supporting a comfortable and stable bite to minimize the risk of tooth damage, decay, and other dental problems. Our dentists can meet with you to evaluate your needs, discuss your cosmetic goals and provide a personalized treatment plan.

Clear Aligners can be used to treat a range of occlusal concerns, crooked teeth, and other cosmetic problems affecting the appearance of your smile:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Misaligned teeth

Orthodontic treatment is often considered inconvenient, uncomfortable, and embarrassing for older patients. Invisalign provides the unique opportunity to treat your orthodontic concerns or makeover your smile with discreet, easy, and faster treatment when compared to traditional metal braces.

Key benefits of clear aligners include:
  • Both Invisalign® and Candid® clear aligners are made of a hard-soft plastic material that does not irritate the gums and soft tissues of the mouth.
  • Your aligners can be removed for up to 2 hours each day for oral hygiene and to enjoy your favorite foods- no dietary restrictions.
  • Removable aligners minimize the risk of developing tooth decay or tooth stains, allowing you to brush and floss normally twice a day.
  • Most patients are able to complete treatment in about a year.

ABOUT THE CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT PROCESS

Straightening your teeth with clear aligners will begin with a consultation and dental exam. Your dentist will thoroughly evaluate your teeth, gums, and jaw joints to identify any bite imbalance or dental concerns that should be addressed with your orthodontic treatment. He will take the time to listen to your aesthetic goals and present a treatment plan for your consideration.

The next step is to take digital dental impressions using the handheld scanner. These images are used in the CAD/CAM software that will be used to design your custom aligners. We will place the first aligners on your teeth and go over your schedule for changing aligners and coming in for periodic checkups. Most patients change out a set of aligners about every 2 weeks.

We will monitor the progress and success of your treatment and make adjustments as needed. Once treatment is complete, you should wear a retainer daily to maintain your new smile and prevent relapse of tooth position.

CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT FAQs

We hope to answer your questions during a consultation, but here are common and frequently asked questions about clear aligners.

  • Are clear aligners covered by dental insurance?

Sometimes. We can work with you to check your dental benefits and determine if a portion of the treatment cost is covered by your insurance carrier.

  • Are the aligners uncomfortable?

Overall, the clear aligners are comfortable and you may not notice them after wearing them for a few weeks. It is common to experience mild discomfort related to tooth pressure when changing to a new set of aligners. This can be managed with an over-the-counter pain reliever.

  • How do I clean my aligners?

We will go over cleaning your aligners during your first visit. Keeping your teeth clean through daily brushing and flossing is a key element in maintaining a healthy smile and clean aligners throughout treatment.
