DENTAL implants IN RICHMOND

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are advanced surgical components that replace teeth roots and support dental restorations. They are cylinder-shaped, similar to a standard screw, and most are made out of titanium. Teeth implants are strategically placed in the jaw bone just below the gum line during a surgical procedure. Once in place, they will fuse with the surrounding bone creating a strong bond. Dental implants come in different lengths and widths to accommodate all the locations along the jaw. A standard implant is typically 3.4 mm to 4.2 mm in diameter. These are mostly used in the front of the mouth. There are also wide implants that measure 4.5 mm to 6 mm in diameter and are typically placed in the back of the mouth to support restorations that replace molars. Kanning Dental offers mini dental implants that are very narrow and range from 1.8 mm to 3.3 mm in diameter. Mini implants are a good choice for people who lack enough room between teeth roots or who do not have enough bone density to support a typical-sized implant.

WHAT TYPE OF DENTAL RESTORATION WILL I NEED?

During your consultation, your dentist will take note of how many teeth you are missing and the location of those missing teeth. This information is used to determine what type of restoration you need. If you are only missing one tooth, a dental crown will be secured to one dental implant to replace it. If you are missing more than one missing tooth, we will use anywhere from two to eight dental implants per arch to secure a dental bridge or denture.

THE BENEFITS OF CHOOSING DENTAL IMPLANTS

A dental implant-supported restoration is the only tooth replacement option that preserves the jaw bone. An implant will mimic a tooth root and provide enough stimulation to the bone so that it doesn’t break down. Teeth implants also hold the restoration in place better. Your new, fake teeth will be durable and secure. This will allow you to chew with a greater force compared to other options. Also, you will not need to worry about the restoration slipping around in your mouth or falling out.

The process of placing dental implants does not require damaging surrounding teeth as a tooth-supported bridge does. A tooth implant is surgically placed only in the space where the missing tooth is located leaving your healthy teeth intact.
