Many of our patients visit our office looking for cosmetic dentistry solutions for achieving a straighter smile. To help with this, we often suggest Invisalign as a discreet alternative to traditional braces. As your trusted dentist in Lawson, MO, we wanted to provide some additional information regarding this treatment option. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding Invisalign:

WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

Invisalign is a system of clear, plastic aligners that fit snuggly over your teeth and gradually apply pressure, encouraging them to shift into a straighter position. It is a treatment option best suited to help patients with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns. Invisalign provides a unique opportunity to treat your orthodontic concerns or makeover your smile with discreet, easy, and faster treatment when compared to traditional metal braces. Every few weeks, you will switch aligners until you have achieved a straighter smile. Unlike traditional braces, which require the secure fastening of brackets and wires over your teeth surfaces throughout the duration of treatment, Invisalign is a removable oral appliance. This offers a variety of benefits to patients being treated with Invisalign.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN?

Invisalign patients enjoy maintaining their smile aesthetics throughout their treatment. The material that the aligners are made out of is completely see-through, meaning it will be hard for anyone to tell that you are undergoing treatment. Additionally, Invisalign is removable meaning that patients do not have to deal with any dietary restrictions or extra steps in their oral hygiene routines. With traditional braces, patients would need to avoid certain foods that would likely get stuck in the brackets and wires. Braces also require extra oral hygiene care when brushing and flossing. With Invisalign, you simply remove the oral appliance to eat, drink, or brush your teeth.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WEAR MY INVISALIGN ALIGNER?

You should wear your Invisalign aligner as much as possible, only removing it to eat, drink, or brush your teeth. However, if you are going to a special event like a wedding, job interview, or first date, you can also remove your aligners. As long as you wear your aligners on average about 22 hours out of every day, your treatment plan will continue to progress. Depending on the starting point of your smile, most Invisalign patients begin seeing results within 12-15 months of treatment.
