THE DENTAL CROWN PROCEDURE

Initial Visit – Your first visit with our doctors will include a thorough examination of the teeth, gums, jaw joints, and other support structures. Using diagnostic x-rays, molds, and impressions, your dentist will look for hidden problems that could be impacting the look and health of your smile. With CEREC, you can leave our office with a permanent restoration that will last for years with proper dental care.

  • Is getting a dental crown painful?

    Just like with any restorative dentistry treatment, you will probably feel some discomfort. Most people report that the dental crown process is only mildly uncomfortable. Your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to block a majority of the pain. While preparing the tooth for the crown, you will feel pressure. Afterward, your tooth will sensitive or sore for a few days.

  • How many office visits are required to get a dental crown?

    Typically two appointments are needed to complete the crown process. However, Kanning Dental offers same-day dental crowns. Using quality ceramic materials and digital CAD/CAM planning, we can fabricate and place your crown in just one visit. CEREC technology allows us to place a quality crown in one day without using messy impressions or temporaries. However, you’ll still get a custom-made crown that will blend in naturally with the rest of your teeth.

  • How long will the crown last?

    A crown typically lasts about five or more years. It really depends on how well you care for your oral health. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy is key to extending the lifespan of your new crown. Some patients have had the same crown for twenty years.

  • How do I care for my dental crown?

    The best part about a dental crown is that it requires the same care as the rest of your teeth. The key with a crown is to floss thoroughly around it to keep the base plaque-free. This will ensure bacteria stays out! Ultimately the only thing you need to do is brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss at least once a day and visit your dentist every six months.
